My daily driver is an ‘04 4-Runner V8 Limited that finally blew its rear subwoofer. I had no idea how muck crap had to get pulled to get to it. F58557F7-FE06-4655-B7B5-E0012D108896.jpeg

the Sub is in the passenger rear and the deck, carpet, pad, molding, seatbelt, and door sill had to be removed since the ENTIRE panel had to come out. It looked like it sectioned out where the sub is. Don’t be fooled. It rivet melted in the back. These little bastards were a pain in the ass because they aren’t removed by any logical reasoning.

They pop out if you can manage to catch the tiny lip that separates the plug from the base

Luckily, Pioneer makes a direct (kinda) replacement you can get off Amazon cheap and quick; Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 8

The wiring was a bit tricky since you need to cut the factory clips to wire the speaker. I looked on YouTube and Googled the hell out of it and no one mentioned what wires were + and - . I had the bright idea to cuss Toyota for not labeling the wires when I saw a SUUUUPER small + and - molded into the connection. If you have a little OCD, you’ll need to make some new holes to clock the sub and ring level. I won’t admit to my decision.

I decided to coat the rear in some Boommat. I’ve used it before for a little sound dampening in a Nova I had and it worked out pretty good. Takes awhile to dry and it stinks for a bit, but if you’re patient, it does a great job.

Since it’s a V8 which isn’t super common, I feel obligated to do the exhaust soon ( Any recommendations?) so I figure any extra sound dampening I can do will help since these are so light. Can’t wait
