Ok yes, went up to lower section of Corral Hollow. Silly me, it's winter time. It was all snowed in and blocked by snow, with kids play at the trail head. Went down to lower elevation to Black Spring road instead, and went in as far as I wanted to go into the snow, still pretty nice. Can't wait til spring.
Man, I would have warned you but for some reason I did not get this post until now! I'm imaging you still had a great time regardless. I love your rig. I am making a snow trip the second weekend in February to either Sequoia or Lake Alpine area. I have not traveled Black Spring, but may check it out.
They are probably talking about the Black Springs OHV area on the north side of highway 4. Many, many miles of dirt roads in that area. You can camp on top of Calaveras Dome, or drive north across the Mokelumne River (north fork?) and get back up to highway 88.
