So I have a 2007 Jeep WK and I've been throwing around the idea of a RTT. However the problem I'm faced with is that I already use the roof rack space for a set of tracks (Xbull gen3), shovel, hi-lift, 2 Jerry cans (and based on the situation a chainsaw and accompanying tool box with bar oil ect. the cargo space is pretty well loaded with gear as well including a cooler, tent, bags, recovery gear box, tool bag, and a rather robust trauma kit (I was a combat medic, so i probably over-pack in this department) I'm not looking for specific ideas on where else I could store my stuff (although I'd welcome any advice) so much as I am curious how others with RTTs have overcome the challenge associated with giving up prime equipment real estate for the RTT. If this topic is covered elsewhere, by all means, please reply with a link, but I've found the search function on just about every forum I've ever used to be damn near useless for finding a specific tread related to my question. Thanks in advance!

Well ............. I have a FJC, it probably has a "bit" more room in the back than your Jeep but probably not much more.

Sleeping bags and pillows can be moved to the RTT, if you choose the right RTT and you can ditch the tent. You'll want to re-size the first aid kit to an acceptable level but no more.

I have my Max-Trax mounted on my spare tire with straps and a cable lock and I cannot carry 2 Jerry cans. I can only carry one, 2-1/2 gallon Wavian NATO Jerry.

You could move the Hi-Lift to the hood as I know they make mounts for that on the Jeep. Myself, I don't carry one due to an accident (my Buddy) years ago. He had most of his upper lip severed off and all of his front teeth were knocked out when the jack slipped in muddy conditions (our fault).

He could have used a "Combat Medic" that day! Thank God for helicopters!

I use a folding shovel to save space.

Other than that, I carry everything you mentioned including a "cordless" chainsaw. Always enough dead and down wood in the forest for free, no need to bring it with you.

I will say that I won't give up my RTT unless I become disabled ........ and I mean really disabled!

Cheers,

Thanks Bruce! I really appreciate the feedback, I think you might be thinking of one of the wranglers, my jeep is a Grand Cherokee so the roof mounted hilift isn't so much an option and without a spare tire on the back gate, I'm still without a place for the tracks. I really want a RTT but I'm not sure if they're right for me just yet with this vehicle. I really like your setup. the FJs are in my top 3 dream vehicles! Thanks again!

NY? Replace the tracks with Truck Claws. Those fit under any seat.

I've put my shovel on the side of my frame in the past. I've never been buried so deep, that it's impossible to get to.

My recovery gear and tools are under my camp gear, when I had my Jeep. My truck has two 55g totes instead.
