There are some other threads that address this issue so you may want to try searching but generally the answer is...it depends. There is no one way to overland. Equipment and modifications largely depend on where you are wanting to go, what your capabilities are, budget etc. It has been suggested to start with safety equipment -a tow rope or kinetic energy strap, first aid kits, basic camping equipment and go out and test your rig and equipment. List the things you wish you had and go from there. The danger of going all out in a build right away is spending money on stuff that you really don't need and also being tempted to go beyond your capabilities as a driver/overlander because you have the fancy equipment and want to use it. Make sure your rig is safe and then go out and explore!
