I'd like to get the actual TEXT of replies to threads I'm watching delivered to my e-mail box, so that I don't have to go to the forum every time someone replies to a thread.

Currently, I'm getting a "...so and so replied to a thread you are watching at OVERLAND BOUND COMMUNITY", but I have to click "View This Thread", then wait for the site to load, then log in, and then scroll to the bottom, select the next page, and so on...just to find that someone the reply was someone saying, "me too!" or "I agree" or whatever...which is great for the life of the thread....but not so great when I spend a minute or two searching for (sometimes) some not-super-informational updates people have posted.

How do I set up my account to give me the actual text that the person posted, in the email notification, just like I can on other forums?

I searched around the forum before posting...was not able to find an answer to my question, so decided to post here. If there's a link, I missed it.

Thank you very much for helping me be more efficient.

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

We used to do this. We do not do this for a few reasons:
  • Main Point: Privacy. A bounced email ends up going to the admin and those private conversations are visible by the admin which is not good.
  • We have had a lot of confused users. Typical scenario: user subs to a thread. A new post is made, user gets an email and reads it. User considers post "read". There are 3 new posts to the thread, but user doesn't get any further notification emails (as designed. user must actually VISIT thread in order to get more notifications for that thread). Therefore: user is upset because they missed 3 posts.
  • Users STILL try to reply to posts by replying to post notification emails - this does not work.
  • Confusion creates customer service issues regularly.
We are working on a few things to improve the friction points you are referring to, including the roll-out of new mobile software that will make many of these pain points go away.

Best,

Michael
