YAY! ADVENTURE! Is our family mantra (as well as ADVENTURE VECTOR! when things don't go as planned!)
We will be starting in the Albuquerque are at the end of June and end up near Mt Rushmore on the 4th of July and then need to be back to ABQ around July 8th. I have a lot of experience trip planning for extended backcountry backpacking, but little for overlanding and would welcome some recommended spots/trails to check out and connect the dots with. I find having some destinations can really help facilitate the journey's path (like MadLibs? ;)). I suppose New Mexico, Colorado, Utah (yes, I know we could spend months here), Wyoming, Nebraska, and Montana would all be game as a part of the adventure and of course any meetups along the way would be an extra bonus! While I hope to have the 37"s on the RAM by then, this will be solo in a BIG TRUCK so rock crawling is really not in the plans.
Any input? I appreciate it!

Since you're going to Mt. Rushmore DO NOT miss Custer State Park. It is a short drive from Mt. Rushmore and could be the highlite of your trip. The 18 mile Wildlife Loop Road is like going on safari. This place is a not-to-miss location.

Also the remote camping and history of Hovenweep National Monument is a remote camping/overlanding treasure in SW Colorado. And of course the Alpine Skyway jeep trail through the San Juan Mtns. between Ouray and Lake City. So much to see and so little time.
