We all know the story Little Red Riding Hood just so happens that the House illustrated in the original book was based off a small house in Mason NH what's known as Pickity Place. The illustrator was a very nice old lady who since passed Those of us who knew her called her Twigg who resided in Mason And I was fortunate to know as a child. Ms. Jones would frequent Mason Elementary School and read to us and tell stories. Myself along with my best friend Dicky would visit her at her home and offer our services helping her around the house or mowing the yard. We weren't paid for it we didn't expect it we just new it was the right thing to do. Pickity place is now an established Restaurant & Herb shop. Inside there is a bedroom setup with the Wolf in bed & Little Red Riding Hood hold her basket its pretty awesome to see. The food is excellent and there are so many herbs to choose from the garden and store. Its nestled in the backwoods which you will encounter a dirt road or two along the route. I haven't visited for around 1 years but, friends still say its very popular. The scenic drive is beautiful!! Since 1786 the quaint little red cottage has graced the hills of southern New Hampshire, seemingly untouched by time. The enchanting cottage was chosen by Elizabeth Orton Jones (Twigg) as the model for her illustrations in Little Red Riding Hood (Little Golden Books, 1948). Today it is a mecca for gardeners, foodies and anyone looking for inspiration and relaxation.
