New Mexico Indian Reservation Concealed Carry

I am planning a trip to the Ruidoso/Cloudcraft area in April for 4wheeling. We expect to travel on some tribal roads. I have searched the web and found that tribes can enact their own rules on carry. (Am aware of tribal laws not applying to non-Indians...and what that means...).

The references I have found state that some NM tribes follow NM state laws but some don't. However, there doesn't seem to be a listing of which allow tribes allow carry and which don't. Does anyone know if the reservations around Ruidoso/Cloudcroft allow or prohibit concealed carry (including locked in a vehicle)? Thanks

I would call the specific tribe and ask if you are concerned. They tend to make up rules on the spot though. It doesn't matter what is in writing. So I would keep it locked up, unloaded, and in a spot where it is not easily accessible. I have never been pulled over or confronted by tribal police so no idea what they would actually do or not do.

I lived in New Mexico and would definitely contact them prior. If I wasn't sure what the policy was, I would not carry. I think this is the area that you are looking for. Send them an email

There is no guaranteed reciprocity on any reservation. When in doubt clear and secure out of sight.
