Hello folks,

after two years it is almost time to go again or back to Morocco.
Last time we went with two friends in their VW T5 $motion and we in our VW T3. This time the setup will be different. (Pictures will follow)
First of all, last week monday my trusty Frontera died on me. Which it did this year three times, so, trusty, well no more. I dont know what is going on with it, but we decided to have ourselves another Rig.
So, friday a week ago we bought ourselves a Jeep Cherokee, better know as the Jeep Liberty KJ from 2003.
And since that day Iam very busy with gearing it up and making it ready for the trip.

This is how it will look when we leave.
And you see a little bit of our new Overland Bound Style Camper Trailer. Or Base Camp Trailer.
This special designed Trailer (by me) is build by my specifications and demands. And It worked out very nice.
Here a picture, still behind my Frontera.

So, we did all the preparations for the trip, and just a few points are still on the list.
But we will manage them this week. We have to, as our journey starts on the first of september. Which is a very good birthday present if I may say so.
First we drive up to Zeeland (the Netherlands) where we meet up with friends to celebrate their wedding anniversary and my birthday. Yes, same day. (coincidence)
On the thrid of september after breakfast we will hit the road down to Spain. We hope to reach on tuesday evening Algeciras in southern Spain were we will book the ferry to and from Ceuta (Spanish enclave in Morocco). From there we will cross the border to Morocco itself.
So, wednessday morning we will cross. We do this crossing with a purpose. Because, when we arrive in Ceuta, we are still in Spain, officially, but we can be clear from the harbor. If something goes wrong, by papers or whatever, we will be on Spanish soil, in a City, instead, when crossing to Tanger, in the harbor behind customs, with no acces to any supplies.
Anyway, nothing will happen, hopefully, but going on an adventure, doesnt mean you have to dive head on first into the dark.
So, when we cross, we will head to the town of Chefchouen were we will rest for one day. Getting used to the African way of life.
Then we leave to Imousar Kandahar nearby Fez. We will meet up with friends and then we will furfill a promise we made two years ago.
Explenation:
Two years ago we had a car breakdown and got to Imilchil, where we were taken care of by a very friendly lady called Malika. She helped us in a way that goes way beyond just helping. She made us family.
As we heard about the misfortune she had, we decided to buy here a new Berber Tent

This is her old one, and due hospital time, snow and disregards of the people towards berber people it collapsed during winter. And that took away a large amount of revenue to her B&B.
And she cant afford to buy a new one.
End of explenation!
So, we will buy a new one and together with our friends we are going to bring that tent to Malika. It will be a two day trip, as we arent in a hurry.
This all will take the first week, that is for sure. And I guess we wont be leaving fast there.
After that we are going south, to Merzouga were will will visit the campsite Heaven la chance again. A wonderful place right at the feet of the big desert dunes.
And yes, this time we will try to find our way into the dunes.
Or plan is to get a guide there, or join a group to Zagora. This is really going into the desert. And I guess, you just dont want to do this alone. Maybe next time.
From Zagora it us up to Marrakesh and then slowly but surely it is time to go home.
We planned a 4 week trip, and we will see what will happen.

Here you can find pictures of our first tour to Morocco. I hope we can make more this time.

We will keep you all informed if you like.

Greetings from the Netherlands.

After working on the Trailer today, yes, that aint finished as well, Frederique, my girlfriend, trusty partner and navigator and I talked about how we could make our navigation better. Especially for Morocco, but also in general.
As we use the Panasonic Toughbook, which pleases us much, we will buy a android tablet as well. This will be used for the Here we Go app with downloadable maps.
These maps are very precize and will help us to find our way in Morocco first.
So, our navigational items will be the Toughbook, the Android Tablet, and paper maps.

Back to the Trailer. I started to make a bracket for two water tanks, each 24 liters, which will be mounted under the back of the trailer. This will provide of course lots of water, but also more weight behind the axle of the trailer.
Which means we can bring more petrol on the front of the trailer.
When finished tomorrow, I will connect a cable to the rear view camera and the front of the Trailer, were it will be connected to the cable to the screen on the dash. This will give us a constant rear view.
Why do we need this? Well, we experienced in the past that kids has the tendency in Morocco and Rumania to climb on the trailer and to find some things like food and such.
That they will damage something isnt funny, or "steal" some food or so, isnt funny, but that they would fall of and be hurt or worse is way more worrying.
So, with the camera we can keep an "eye" to that.

Tomorrow as well I will buy the tablet and get an mount for that thing.

On tuesday I will replace the break pads in the rear, and get some spare for the front.
And with that I will be ready with all the work I really had to do before we are leaving.

So, Wednessday and thursday, we will pack the Trailer and the Rig and then we are ready to roll.
Which we will do on friday around noon.
First we will go to friends who are on vacation in Domburg/Zeeland. That is in the Netherlands. We will spend the friday and the saturday with them and get a bit to rest, before we head down south.
On the sunday after breakfast it is time to go down south, over Paris, San Seastian, Selvilla to Algerciras. There we will take the Ferry to Morocco.

So, still keep you all informed.

Hello,

Well almost all preparations are done. As far as I know, they are done. My list is complete. BUT, tomorrow after filling up the watertanks and hope they are not leaking, and checking the rear view kamera if it works, I can start saying Iam ready for the trip.
Still hoping that my chilton manual for the Jeep is coming in before friday. Otherwise we do have a little concern about that. But then again, we will manage in a way.
The only major thing that maybe I have to do tomorrow is to take out one of the 1 cm strips that raises the trailer. This because in the beginning the trailer was lined out for the Frontera and the trailer hook up on the Jeep is lower as the Frontera.
So, if really needed we have to change that.
If not, Iam done.

Thursday it will be big packing day and then on friday we are of to leave for Zeeland.
Then it is time to have a well earned vacation.

If the weather will be ok at last I will make some pictures from the Jeep and the Trailer.

See you by then.

Well folks,

Just a few more days and then we are heading to the coast of the Netherlands for a start. First two days of the journey will be with friends in Zeeland. And that means that I think for the first time in our life we wont head out from work and going on a big trip. This time we just will cool down before we head south to Morocco.

Today I finished at last the bracket and all for the water tanks. Tomorrow I will fill them up and then we know if I did good enough. We will see.
I also installed the cable for the camera. So, at last my bucket list is empty. And I hope it stays empty/

The only thing that could be a thing to do is to lower the trailer by one cm if he doesnt drive well. And I never had the trailer behind the jeep, so I think that will be a first tomorrow. And if all is good. Well, then we are technical ready to hit the Road.
Tomorrow some packing, thursday as well and yes, just two more days before the big day has arrived.

Iam very excited.

Since yesterday we do have a Samsung Galaxe E tab with 9.6 inch screen which is solely for Here we Go. We will use the offline maps to have more details as we have on TTQV.
We decided to not upgrade TTQV into Que Vadis navigation, as it has already moved up to windows 10, and our toughbook is still running with XP. So we decided that for us, the toughbook as it is, for Europe is absolutely good. We have three navigational systems we work with, and they all work fine with XP. But, there are actually no real improvements at this moment for this combination. So, we said, for the trips to Morocco and other more remote countries, we will use just for references and details in urban area's the Galaxy with the Here we go maps.
And next to that we will still have the old paper maps. So, when we got lost, I think we need new glasses.

Hello folks,

Well, I think I need to high light already some of the things we did and experienced in Morocco during our Holidays there.
First of all, I like to express my thanks and gratitude to Houssaine and Fatima, Mohamed, Tarik, Aziz, Driss and many more that made the following possible.
During our first trip to Morocco we had the oppurtunity to find out that Angels are real. They do exist. And we encountered one.
She helped us in need, she embrased us and took us in. And no money asked. Just knowing she did right in the eye of Allah/God, Jahwe or whatever you like to call him/it or her.
So, after that we did made a promise to ourselves and asked our friends to help.
We bought a new Berber Tent for her,

She is now able to have more guests at her Auberge and so is able to have more revenue out of it.
This is not our effort alone, all our friends supported us with money, thoughts, efforts and more.
We just were the people wo organised it all and brought it to her.
Houssaine and Fatima and their Family arranged the buy of the tent, and the transport, and they all helped with putting it up.
This was I think the main goal of our trip to Morocco.

The next part was simple. We were there at the right time and the right moment to help a Moroccan car driver in need.
After he was crashed in a ditch next to the road, we helped him as much as we could by towing him back on the road.
Unfortunally his car was so damaged that we couldnt repair it there. Oil pan was torn of and his wheel wasnt mounted to the car anymore.
But now he could prepare the car to be recovered by a recovery truck.

I was very happy that we could help.

Well, I hope you agree that helping people, if they are Overlanders, Overland Bound members or not, is one of the things you should do.

Greetings from Robert

Hello folks,

Well, I started to write a report about our trip to Morocco. And I saw that all the pictures of the former trip were gone. Relocated I guess on Facebook.
So, for the better I decided to writ it on my website, which stays in the air and I will leave this trip on for a longer period.
Which means that fi you like to see it all, and read about our adventures, well you just have to go and read it all on my website.
Here is the link.
http://dragonriders-travel.nl/morocco 2017 report.html
It doesnt mean I wont post here some parts of it, or maybe when I am done I will copy all the text in here. But for now, it is easier to update the website until Iam finished.
So, the story isnt complete, just started, so I will tell you here when there is a little update. Which I hope will happen day by day by day.

Greetings from Robert
