Join the Los Padres National Forest and the LPFA as we help cleanup Cherry Creek!
Cherry Creek Rd is located about 45mins outside of Ojai along beautiful Hwy 33. Cherry Creek was used as a target shooting range for many years before being shutdown within the past decade. While target shooting no longer occurs along Cherry Creek there is tons of leftover trash from the target shooting days. In addition, the Thomas Fire burned the upper part of Cherry Creek and has revealed even more trash that was hidden under and within the brush. We're hoping to take advantage of the lack of vegetation and clean up as much of the trash as we can.
We'll be meeting at the junction of Cherry Creek and Hwy 33 (34.606004, -119.356993) at 9am on Saturday 12/8. We'll also be meeting at Wheeler Gorge Visitor Center at 8am if you'd prefer to carpool or caravan from there. Once at Cherry Creek Rd we'll drive up to the edge of the Thomas Fire burn area and begin cleaning up the trash. The project will officially end at 3pm but feel free to leave earlier if you have other plans.
Please bring whatever food/water you'll need for the day along with a few layers of clothing (it can get cold up there), sunscreen and a camera to share the day on your IG. We'll provide gloves, trashbags and a few others goodies as well. Rain will cancel.
It should be a fun day, a great reason to #OptOutside, work off some of the Thanksgiving calories, explore beautiful Cherry Creek Canyon and give back to the forest. If you have any questions please email INFO@LPForest.org and we'll do our best to get you an answer. Please RSVP so we can get an accurate head count and we hope to see you there......
