So i guess i should start off by introducing myself, I am Phil Stone, live in Northern Michigan and own three Isuzu vehicles. I have been an avid fan of all 4x4 vehicles foreign for many years. Recently picked up the 1990 Trooper 4x4 5 speed with the GM 2.8L v6 that i added to our family's collection. We also have a 1990 Mitsubishi Mighty Max 1-ton 4x4 5 speed and a 1989 Dodge Raider. As a fellow wrencher i have to ask the group how reliable is the 2.8L GM v6, like are they sturdy and tough?? not asking to compare to today's engines cause it would never stack up, however it does make decent torque and has between 120-140 Hp. I guess i should also state the millage is at 175,398 miles and starts quickly, has no miss or backfire sounds, no oil or coolant or power steering leaks at all, frame is not Swiss cheese and body has only one small area on lower front drivers left that needs a patch welded in like a 2 inch long by 1/2 inch spot i already cleaned up for replacement. All the doors are solid, not rusty and underside is actually pleasantly clean enough to work under.

Can't offer any info on 2.8L, but that's a cool looking little rig. Had a V6 4.3 in my old Jimmy that clocked 365K and another in my Astro van 270K, without either ever seeing a wrench...besides for oil changes. GM has made some pretty reliable engines in the past and present, l say...if it's running strong...change the oil every 3/5K and you can easily see similar numbers.

Welcome (from another Michigander) to the group.
