Hi everybody,

as I have a workshop and like to build things as well as fit them properly, I decided to build my own drawer system. That way they are also a bit cheaper, and we got a system exactly the way we wanted it.

We were looking at different slide out versions, and decided that a drop down would be too heavy and bulky. Hence here our version with a left-side pull out and two drawers.

I wanted two drawers, one 170mm high for kitchen and food, which fits two cans stacked. I measured that ahead of time.
The bottom drawer is the remaining height of the body not interfering with the net hooks on the car on the sides about 470mm high minus everything else.
I wanted a pullout surface to place things on as I did not want to drill into the door for a dropdown table and also thought this solution might be a bit more sturdy :)

The base is made of 3/4in plywood, all other sides 1/2in ply. I have not made any cutouts yet for weight reduction, but might do so in the future.

Everything is held together by dominos, glue and mountings with euroscrews.

The top and sides are covered in vehicle carpet to protect the car from scratches, the drawers and board is oiled.

Here are the plans as PDF to scale (in metric).

For the fridge I used locking slides rated for 400lb and mounted them flat. That way the usable capacity reduces by 75% leaving me 100lb, which should be plenty. Looking at it after the fact, I could have probably used the same 250lb slides I used on the drawers.

For the "cutting board" which is an oak board I had lying around, I used slides that just lock with 6lb of spring tension on the in and out.

I'm looking to build my own drawer system in the back of my '01 4Runner. Were there any problems you ran into or suggestions you could give to help building and install go smoothly?
