I took my $15 cooler I've had for years and sprayed the inside of the lid with insulation foam, screwed in rubber weather stripping around the lip of the cooler, put stainless steel hinges, latches, and of course a bottle opener, naturally.
(Also if you plan on doing this use nuts and bolts not just screws. This means you have to cut into the lid it to access the nuts.)
