Good day everyone
Sorry upfront for this long DIY. This is my first post so please bear with. As we all know it is fun to do your own DIY builds so here we go. I started out with grabbing a few things from my garage and Home Depot. Here are the supplies I used
2) 3/8 turnbuckles
2) 1/4 ferrule sets
2) 5/16 spring clips
2) 2” Zink corner brackets
20’ 3/8 stainless coated cable

I cut the cable in half for 2 10’ lengths. I connected the ferrule and made my loop on one end of both cables. At this point I connected my clips to my loops. Grabbing my socket set I head to the truck and pop my hood. I had to make custom brackets for the front as I don’t have a bumper with bars. I used the 2” brackets and cut them down to fit in spot where my bolt is. After grinding to a look that I liked I painted black gloss to match truck. Once dry I installed and attach my clips with cable to each side. With drill in hand I moved to my rack and lined up cables. Drilling a 3/8” hole on both side I connected my turnbuckles stretching my cables to a tight line and marking with a sharpie. I disconnected cables and attaching ferrules. Talking a break from our nice heat right now I had a water in the shade. Ok back to it I reattached clips and turnbuckles and tightened down awwwww stand back and enjoy my work.

Thanks everyone for taking a min for a new member DIY

Well done, looks good.
Out of interest, can you still open the bonnet/hood with them in place? Looks to me (might just be the angle) that the spring hooks may interfere.

I may have done one or two things a little differently, but this is your truck and project, so do it your way.
Good job[emoji1303]

thanks and unfortunately yes it is a problem that I was to tired to fix but I will have to change brackets to off set the hooks and line ideas are always welcome what would you have done differently I am doing this entire build on a small or no budget mainly so people can see it doesn’t have to be expensive like my rack was $75
Thanks again happy trails

What you could do is to drill straight through the rack, fix an eye bolt in that position, and spin the line around - turn-buckle at the bottom, on the outside of the hood bracket.
Might be just enough clearance, and more secure at the top.
Minimal extra cost.

Maybe to test it out, you could zip tie the spring hook to the rack - see if it works out how I think it might (clearance wise).

Shoot up a pic if you do try it that way - let's brainstorm it.

Excellent thoughts on the brackets - hadn’t thought of that. I second Mambo’s thoughts on drilling through the rack; great DIY
