Dental first aid often gets overlooked but when something goes wrong it can hurt like hell. Its not a bad idea to have some temp cement in your base camp first aid kit. Loosing a crown or a filling in the middle of nowhere can vary from totally painless to a show stopper. Having a small container of temp cement will allow you to patch up a lost filling or re-seat a crown pretty easily. You should still see a dentist within a few days but it could at least save you some pain. If you dont have temp cement, sometimes you can pop a crown back on without it and it will stay on temporarily. Whatever you do, dont throw out a crown that isnt broken! Making a new crown is expensive, re-seating one is not.

Also, if you have a tooth ache or are experiencing pain dont wait to call your dentist. Even if you're out of town, they may be able to call in antibiotics or help with pain management. These things dont often go away on their own.
