I like to air down to about 25psi for my annual trek into the retail badlands. I’ve found that it‘s low enough to get over those speed bumps smoothly but still leaves enough sidewall tension to turn quickly when I see an open parking space. I know what you’re thinking... park way out in the back 40. Yeah, I do that on the regular but sometimes you have to drop the missus off at a store and she doesn’t want to walk that far. Plus you meet some interesting people at the cart corral. Most of the time, however, I drop my navigator off at the door, hand her the walkie talkie, and head for the furthest spot available. Comms are important people!

Once I get parked, I’ve found it’s best to go ahead an set up the kitchen. Let’s face it, we all know I’m going to be there a while (possibly days) and I might as well have some food for the wait, right? Don’t forget to pack your JetBoil Flash because the Loss Prevention folks at Target don’t appreciate open fire cooking in the parking lot. ASK ME HOW I KNOW.

Last but not least, make sure you have adequate bedding for a long stay. Half the stores are now open 24/7 before Christmas so you need to sleep in shifts. I can sleep in the back fo the truck but I always make sure to have the ground tent packed just in case. No need to disturb by slumber just because Khols has a flash sale at 10pm, am I right or am I right?

Whatever winter solstice type festival you observe, be it Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, or other... I hope you have a good one.

Happy Holidays friends!

that looks more than 25psi in those tires, I aways make sure I have good lighting as you don't know what lurks in the dark corners of the parking lots.

Good catch. I was just sitting in the truck, waiting for the better half and it was a good excuse to make a post. And yes, lighting is critical to surviving the shopping frenzy.HAHA!

Most important, what do you drink while you sit out there in the cold?

Certainly you need something to warm you up.

Well of course! I have to have fresh coffee but I’m not about to subject myself to the insanity of the Mall coffee shop (I don’t have a death wish). So I make sure to brew a big thermos before i leave the house. Then if I need a refill, I can fire up the JetBoil and make some fresh.

Sadly, Bourbon is out of the question for this outing because the mall has a team of CRACK MERCENARIES ready to pounce from their digicamo Segways if any open containers are seen on their property. Even if I am to be parked there for 3 days!!!!

Savages.

You forgot the trailer to keep those Prius’ out of your tent spot... also doubles for the merch your navigator is going to haul out and expect you to tie into the roof for her... please tell me you brought the ratchet straps.

The trick is to bring your own Starbucks cup, but fill it with something better.

Clearly I have new justifications for buying a trailer now ;)
As for the ratchet straps, of course! We can‘t be putting up rookie numbers on this outing.

I’m not saying you’re wrong haha

I generally stay aired up and park next to the cool kids with nicer toys for extra security. I don't want to be a victim of smash and grab.

When the parking is limited I've been known to air down to 15psi and park right up in the landscaping. I recommend a mud terrain tire. I broke a sprinkler once and barely made it back over the curb with AT tires.

Glad you survived. The shrubbery at Williams and Sonoma are notorious.

I agree with the 15 psi for "adverse conditions". Sometimes it's necessary to drive forward to change spaces or grab the nice shade spot up in the flower beds. My question here is, what do you do when you get a Prius stuck in your tread? I love the sound they make when they dislodge driving down the highway but, the tic tic tic while driving through the mall gets annoying.
