I have been to Prewitt Ridge. Definitely an awesome weekend camp spot, an easy trail for a stock 4x4 Tacoma. You can see the ocean from most spots on prewitt.
Last time we were up there the cone peak trail was closed it may be open now for the summer but I don’t know.
You may be able to check out both as the trailheads are right across from each other off Nacimiento Rd. Heading east Cone peak on the left and Prewitt Ridge on the right.

They're about a 45 min drive apart, so why not do both? The views from Prewitt Ridge are spectacular and plenty of great spots to set up camp. The road to cone peak faces east, so you don't get the same exposure to the pacific. I'd recommend driving to the Cone Peak trailhead, hiking to the peak (I think it's like 1-2 miles), and then heading over to Prewitt Ridge to set up camp.
