Hello all I am new in Overlanding and I am ecstatic to start my Overlanding career. I was wondering if i do not have an overland rig but want to join in Overlanding and want to join in the Overlanding meets. Can I go to the Overland meets and still ride with someone Overlanding?? or do i have to have a rig in order to go Overlanding??

Welcome Eddie.
It's going to be hard to overland without a vehicle, but you might be able to meet up with some local groups that wouldn't mind taking on an extra passenger.

Hello Eddie,

Even if you don't currently have a rig that you consider to be an "Overlander", bear in mind one of the founding principles of this site, "It doesn't matter what you drive: The only requirement of an overland vehicle is that it serves the job required, safely." An overland rig is is what you want it to be. We've all seen some pretty epic adventures being conducted in myriad of vehicles...from motorcycles to EarthRoamers. It's all about the adventure and not necessarily how you got there. I suspect that if you were to reach out to a fellow Overlander, you should be able to find someone to explore with. Just get out there, you don't have to wait for the perfect vehicle/weather/etc.

Safe Travels...

As you have read the vehicle doesn't make the adventure you do. If you don't mind tell us a little more about you (where are you from) and what your driving. I'm sure you'll get some great information in return.
I started out over 40 years ago with just a trap and a blanket. Slowly with more experience I expanded into different types of exploring.
Best of luck with your research ... have fun.

I would recommend coming to one of the local meetups to introduce yourself to the local crowds ( don't worry we don't bite). You can also check out peoples rigs and talk to them about what has and hasn't worked for them....
