Dumb question, for a trip to Baja and I need insurance can I go thru my insurance company “Progressive” or due I go to a actual Mexico covered policy. Any recommendations would be great, never drove out of country so all info would be appreciated.

Not a dumb question.
Get the Mexican insurance. It's required. Not to mention it may keep you out of jail or your vehicle impounded should you be involved in an accident.
You may want to try: bajabound.com

Hey! I was just wondering the same. Also what happens if you are off road? Can you get insurance for that?
i'm not sure if any companies offer off-road insurance, but I do know that the "normal" mexico vehicle insurance that you are required to get does NOT cover any off-road driving or "unconventional roads" which sounds subjective

from Bajabound:
Coverage is only valid on conventional roads. Coverage while off-roading, racing and driving on non-conventional roads is excluded.
