Hey guys so I recently bought a 07 4Runner and I’m looking at all the stuff to make like easier while out on the trail, so I’ve been looking at roof racks and trying to stay away from baskets they mount to the stock racks. So I hear and see all of these rack companies frontrunner, Gobi, Equipt1, etc but I never hear about ARB racks??? WHY??? Is there something I’m missing.

I just want something that’s functional and cost friendly please any help or tips.

Not sure why that is. We’ve had an ARB touring rack on our Cruiser for the last 8 years and no complaints. It’s a solid steel rack and nothing has broken on it. One of the selling points for me was the channel that spread the load of the mounting points along the gutter/rain channel. In the main though it’s only used when the RTT is fitted. That said when we were looking for a rack the choice wasn’t huge because of the cost of shipping on the full size one piece steel racks. It just so happened we got a deal on the rack and tent from one supplier so that’s where we spent our money. Today there seems to be a lot more competition. Whilst a solid steel rack (I can’t speak for ARB’s aluminium racks) is strong and can be easily welded if anything did break it’s also comparably heavy. Today there are a lot of modular style aluminium racks that ship in kit form and can be easily adapted to your needs with lots of add on mounting accessories.
