I'm looking at a trip to Creede, Lake City, Alpine loop area toward the end of May. Is Alpine Loop typically open by then? From a snow perspective, I mean. How about Wheeler? I might be able to push the trip a week or so later into early June. Or I might have to scrap yet another plan due to the stupid plague... we'll see!

Thanks,

-Chris

we have had massive snow in the mountains of colorado this year...there is no way the loop or really anything unpaved above 10k feet will be open until July

That is what I figured. Thanks for the info! Looking at big bend area instead. End of May should be just right before it gets too hot. Amazing the difference a few hundred miles makes!

Was just out there last September over labor day. Late AUG, early SEPT is best... Do it before OCT otherwise more snow and ice chances. Good luck

Big Bend, anything after late April will be *hot*. Northern NM should be largely snow free in your time frame. Not as great as Creede, but Valle Vidal, Midnight Meadows, Tres Ritos, Pecos, all nice areas.
