I am going to be taking my boys on our first trip to the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine the weekend of October 20. It is going to be about a 3-4 hour drive for us. We are planning on camping on the Movie Road. We may also plan to see the Cerro Gordo Mines pending on time. What advice would you give to first timers on this trip? What are some things we have to see or do? We are looking forward to this trip.

How are you camping, tent or trailer? I imagine tent? Just plan on cold weather and bring a little buddy heater if you have it for the kiddos.

I imagine it'll be a little more chilly. That's the nice thing about teaching the boys how to start fires to stay warm. They're faster learners when they're uncomfortable. We'll be taking the trailer out.20180907_124909.jpg

We will be there the same weekend ( at least that's the plan) we are driving up Friday heading back Monday. It will be our first time to go there as well. Looks like there is plenty to explore!

Ours is going to be a real quick trip. We're leaving early Saturday morning, then heading back on Sunday sometime.

Yes we did and trip was great. We had my friend who was a first timer with us and couldn't have been happier. With our set up it can be hard sometimes to find a place due to the space needed. Days were in the mid 70s and at night lowest it got was high 40s. There was a fire ban on till the 1st of Nov although there seemed to be many people that did not seem to care are we counted at least 8 camp fires that we could see just from our spot. Since my friend had never been up that way we covered alot of ground from Alabama hills to mono lake area and between showing him some of the more iconic spots to see. In the end 10 outa 10 would recommend lol. IMG_20181022_200604_523.jpegPANO_20181022_111225.jpegIMG_20181020_174821.jpeg

That looks like it was nice out there. Were there a lot of people? Looks like my next opening to go out will be middle of November. Thanks for the pictures and update.

There was a decent amount of people out put not bad. We had a bit of difficulty finding a spot that we would fit in and ended up finding our spot that came with a couple neighbors. They were still a good distance away and outside of the odd laugh or yell we didn't hear either of them. If we were not limited on spot size or had gotten there in day light ( got in at about 6:30 but by the time we searched for camp was about an hour later) we could have probably had no others near. Very quiet all you would hear apart from your own camp was a random laugh, yell or maybe the odd car from time to time.
