Hello! I am new to the forum and new to overlanding. My wife and I have plans to buy a 4runner or GX470 for overlanding, but before we pull the trigger we want to try the experience out with a rental. We will be in a fully equipped TRD Pro 4runner with a rooftop tent and fully equipped. We have 4 days in Utah with flights in and out of Salt Lake City. We don't mind long legs of travel. Our thoughts are we would like to hit Zion and Monument Valley. It would be a fast turnaround, but we want to make the most of it. We are looking for recommendations for trip planning, or at least some resources we can use that are helpful for planning. Thanks for helping out a couple of newbies!

You could spend a few months in Utah overlanding and seeing great sites with multi-day stays in many different areas. If you are looking at only 4 days and going all the way down to Zion you would find spending a great deal of time on-road vs. off road and it would be kind of a waste to rent that rig for that purpose. Zion is also more convenient from Las Vegas vs. Salt Lake City. If I were in your situation with that tight of a schedule and had that rig already locked in from Salt Lake City I would look at either pairing Capital Reef NP with the Grand Staircase area or alternatively looking at pairing Arches NP w/Moab and Canyonlands NP. Both of those areas would have a variety of different things to see and also many more options for backcountry camping and off-road travel in awesome settings to use that rig.
