2017, SR5, 4wd, 4Runner

On 8/4/2017, I purchased a 2017 SR5 4Runner from Heyward Allen Toyota in Athens, GA. I am new to the 5th gen platform, but I have owned a 1999 4Runner since new. The reason for stepping into the 5th gen was for a more reliable “road trip” vehicle, as well as to get the 4wd I had dreamed about since 1999. This vehicle will change over the next few years, but it will not reach the level of the 3rd gen (or so I thought). The plan is to have the 5th gen as a reliable DD and weekend warrior. The tentative plan for this will be all terrain tires and improved lighting, as well as some fun things too. While the 5th gen gets the main use duties, the 3rd gen will slowly acquire parts for a 4wd swap. In the end, the goal is to have the 5th gen mildly built and the 3rd gen will be the fun TOY. This thread will not be a “build” thread, but more of a place to post trips and share whatever changes occur over the years. Now on to the 4Runner…

Thanks! I am very interested in seeing those 20s. The headunits look nice. Hope you start a thread once you get it!

I'm just waiting for the LFD rack to ship, but in the meantime I did a few things to stay occupied. Installed regular sized RokBlokz mud flaps, scangauge 2 with blend mount above rear view mirror and a little more homage to the og landcruisers with a 4wd badge on the front. Also helped a buddy install stock crossbars and the predator steps on his 17 sr5.20190803_180516.jpeg20190803_175419.jpeg20190803_173324.jpeg

How was the install on the apex overland Recovery points? I have some on the way right now!
Not bad at all! Very straight forward. For me (I did the install solo) the hardest part was reinstalling the sway bar brackets. I didnt lift the vehicle or remove tires either. Like this the work space was small but definitely still doable. Good luck with the install!

Got any pictures of the firestik installed?
I do not have pictures of the "step by step" but I do have the antenna mount and hand held cb. I can get pictures for you though if you would like. As for the install, I ran the coax cable through the large rubber gasket on the firewall inside the engine bay on the drivers side. Once inside the cabin, I ran the cable around the center console to where it connected to the cb. Just let me know if you want detailed pictures and I will get them for you.

The LFD 7/8ths rack arrived today! All I can say is wow! LFD knocked it out of the park! Everything about this experience was amazing. When I ordered I was informed there would be a 4-6 week lead time. The rack showed up on week 3! Also got notification that the rack shipped yesterday (8-7-2019) and as of now it is installed! I do live 3 hours from their shop though. But anyway, awesome rack and company all around and I will be ordering skids when the budget allows! Now on to the pictures...20190808_194843.jpeg20190808_194832.jpeg20190808_194848.jpeg

Just a picture of it installed would be fine. I am looking at getting one and am not sure where to mount it.

Ok, the first and second ones its a 2ft firestick on a spring attached to a nmo hood mount, the third is the nmo mount with a cap installed and the fourth is the cb installed in the cab. Let me know if you would like any others.20171005_180739.jpeg20171005_180735.jpeg20181030_175211.jpeg20181030_175126.jpeg

How’s the wind noise with the LFD rack? Also how much does it hold? Thanks! From Stone Mountain area.

In my opinion the rack is more quiet than the stock rack with stock crossbars. In windy conditions you can barely hear it. Right after install, I went on a road trip to hhi and myself and gf both agreed it was more quiet than stock. As for holding capacity, LFD says 300# moving and 600# static. It also did not impact my mpg either. Still averaged 22 mpg on the road trip down and back. Hope this helps!
