    Lighting up Camp

We've made several adventures this year, and often pull into camp after dark. What's your strategy for lighting up camp, especially for setting up or tearing down?

    Solo, Co-pilot, or Group?

There's a variety of ways to enjoy the outdoors, and I like doing all three of the above. I generally don't do new trails solo, but is that okay? I have been doing this a while, and consider myself fairly experienced. One can plan ahead, and bring all the gear in the world, but still get into a...

    State Licensing

In Michigan certain trail runs (particularly those not accessible using a 2wd vehicle, or scramble areas) require having an ORV license. Some states require these, and some don't. If you know of a state that requires it, please post below, along with ideally a link to the appropriate...

    How much Fuel is enough?

I'm planning a trip through the upper Mid-west this summer (North/South Dakota, then into Wyoming and Colorado). I expect along the highway portions (which honestly will be the majority) that fuel won't be too hard to come by... but when I start adventuring off the highway, how much fuel should...

    Standalone GPS

A lot of us just carry our smartphones with built-in GPS, and use Gaia or other apps to plot our courses. But I know many of us also use standalone GPS devices. What devices do you use, and what features do you like? I'm thinking this would be a good thing to add to my kit...

    Camp Pizza

Anyone do pizza at camp? I know a wood-fired oven is the traditional cooking method, but given we aren't hauling in a ton of bricks, that doesn't work for overlanding. What methods do you have? I feel like this would be a good, hearty meal on the go, but not sure on the execution...

Roof Lights on Xterra Stock Bars

All - I have a 2008 Nissan Xterra, and am working on a strategy for mounting some roof lights. I'd like to add a basket at some point, but its lower on my list. Has anyone on this forum mounted lights on the factory bars that has some ideas or strategy for me? Preferrably with pictures!

    On the Trail Cooking

I know many of us setup a campsite, and do the majority of our cooking there. But what about those of us out on the trail at meal-time? How do you all prepare and cook a meal on the go? Or do you just brown-bag it? Any suggestions along the lines of @Michael's engine bowl video?

Resolved Amazon Media Links not showing up

The below posts were split off from the Coffee Setup thread - Steve That image/link appears broken. Is it me, or is it my company's firewall?

    General Trip Planning

How do you plan for a trip to parts unknown? Maps are a great place to start, but what else do you use to determine what areas to explore, what's available, local rules and regulations, etc. Good advance planning makes for a positive experience, so how do you all do it?

    Propane Distribution

With the abundance of propane appliances for camping (stove, buddy heater, lantern, grills, tembo tusk, bug zappers, etc), does anyone have any tips/tricks for distributing fuel around a campsite? Is there an easy way to hook everything up, or do you carry multiple bottles?

    DIY Awnings

I've seen some posts on here from folks who have built their own awnings. What sorts of fabrics did you use? Are they able to be folded/rolled up like the production ones? Any build threads? I'm thinking of going the DIY route and am looking for inspiration and ideas. Looking forward to see...

    It's not what, it's who...

I spend time with my wife. We love adventuring together, and have been doing so almost since we started dating. Sometimes that means flying, but more and more it's overlanding. I have been introducing her to it, and she really enjoys it. We've already got plans for several trips over the next...

    Hi-Lift Maintenance

I know many of you have mounting points for your hi-lift on a bumper, basket, rack, etc. Do you keep your jack mounted there all the time, or take it down when you're not overlanding? How do you keep it clean, and how often do you lube it up?

    Fiberglass trailer?

Hi all! I am doing planning for my trailer, and was thinking of doing the box as a wood frame, and laminating with fiberglass. It would be strong and light, but I'm wondering if it would hold up to bumping around off-road. Has anyone tried anything like this?
