The best source for finding out about trail clean ups in Michigan would be the Great Lakes Four Wheel Drive Association. They usually do several in the spring. They do have a Facebook page. They had a forum page but I have no idea if it is very active anymore.
I did a trail ride a couple weeks ago with several from Michigan 4Runners group on FB. I can't recall if Andy (he had the 1st gen Toyota pickup on Truck Night In America a couple years ago)is on here but he put it together and knows the Traverse City area. Although not Kalkaska, it wasn't all...
You are welcome! I have been back again since I wrote that. Such a beautiful area! I was just thinking while at work it would be a ncie trip to take the new Intech camper on but I think we will ahve enough to do thsi year but you never know.
BTW, the waterfront area in Duluth is loaded with...
We pretty much just winged it as far as camping accommodations. We ended up in a couple of state forests off the water a little bit. I know one was by the Baptism River. We heard a wold celebrating a kill not long after it got dark. Very cool! We used a Minnesota Gazetteer to find campgrounds...
I had a Sears Diehard Platinum (rebranded Odyssey) in my Tacoma for 8 years. Great battery. I'm in Michigan so I take batteries out of about everything in teh Winter.
I am picking up an Intech Pursue tomorrow. The current owner said the battery is getting tired. I happen to have a brand new Odyssey Extreme sitting in my garage thanks to Rutledge Wood. I think I am going to throw that in the trailer. I don't plan on running a lot but I may consider running a...
Yes! That is what it was. I had never seen one before. It actually moved pretty quick for what it was. This was one of those shots. I didn't realize I had caught the reflection until I got home and started going through them.
Canon 70D with a cheap Sigma 18-250 tele. I bought the lens for a trip to Germany in '14. I have been pleasantly surprised with it's performance but it is getting worn.
Hmm. I could probably write a small novel about this but I will try, try, to keep it somewhat short.
Detroit? Don't let the rep scare you. Lots of good places to eat downtown. It has been cleaned up a lot over the last 10 years. On the way up, if you want water, I would recommend going up...
I went up north with a couple good friends to a car show a couple weekends ago. One of them lives a little south of Mackinaw City, Michigan. My highlight was when my buddy told to take a hike up the hill behind his house. "Take your camera but be quiet."
The family that has lived next door for...
Some of my photo work from this year.
I was out for a stroll and happened to catch the local freight going through.
The freighter Algoma Innovator paid my area, Bay City, MI, a visit. This ship just started servicing the Great Lakes last November. The scratches are from going through the...
From hat I have read, it sounds like the Michigan DNR is going to be opening the areas past Copper Harbor up more. The road out to High Rock Bay is just short of being a dirt highway now compared to 10 years ago. HRB is a great spot to camp but can be over run at times in the summer now. A...
Great thread!
Being I live by the Saginaw River which is fed by Lake Huron, I have always been fascinated with the Great Lakes freighters. I started shooting them many years ago with a little point and shoot. When I bought a DSLR back in '12, I stepped up my game. My favorite is catching them...
