    Backcountry Internet Gear/Providers

Naturally it just depends on how open the sky is. Author: The Starlink app shows the actual breaks in service. It can also predict down time based on the percent of obstructions. Sometimes the connection will be lost for fractions of a second, other times minutes. You can download the app...

    Backcountry Internet Gear/Providers

I think Starlink RV is currently the best all around solution, unless some type of live communication is required (it's not good for zoom calls or live gaming...) It's pretty easy to pick site locations that have reasonable view of the sky, there's an app for that. Yes, connection can be lost...

    California Fire Permit

Yes, great idea to retrain every year because of all the new changes in fire behavior. I read on Facebook that the fire triangle has become a pentagon!!!

    The Wok

That's great, hey if you haven't discovered these yet they are a must for easy cleaning of woks, grills, dutch oven... I am dead serious. They themselves are super easy to clean, unlike brushes, and other scrubbers. https://a.co/d/eWynJ5X

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

Yes, that is a major downside of rtt, they take up extreemy valueable roof rack space. But the off-road trailer/tent combo does address that. Plus it can be left at base camp...

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

Add rock sliders and scrap the ladder. The RTT design still doesn't work for me but this would be a nice summer toy.

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

Cool, I've spent a little time in those waves. Now pretty much an old lifer on the OR coast, Florence. We do get a wide variety of camp rigs through here.

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

MMc, All you had to say is "I'm a surfer" lol. Now that you mention it, I don't know a single surfer that rolls with a RTT.

Rethinking many aspects of our Overlanding setup and goals.

:o Yep, a 3 week delay is harsh but not surprising, but 2 or 3 months without camping? I couldn't do it.

Tactical U-turn and Titanium Shovel Review

The high point (literally) of our recent trip was at 7500 Ft. We were more than a mile up a steep narrow spur when we came to snow. I scouted ahead on foot and found two feet of snow with no turnaround in sight. We picked the widest stretch of road and disconnected the trailer… This small...

Rethinking many aspects of our Overlanding setup and goals.

That's awesome! February is a great time of year for camping, no crowds. We just pulled into Boise, ID after 4 days of backcountry. We hit snow at about 8,000 feet. At one point we decided to un-hitch and ended up doing a three point turn-around when the snow got too deep. We lucked into some...

    California Fire Permit

Great, I feel much safer after watching that video and taking the quiz. I feel double safe knowing that everyone else that plans to camp in CA will be doing the same. But, I'm confused. The video did not cover anything about the propane stove or MRI heater that I like to use. The permit allows...

    Question regarding a simple switch

That's my standard practice. Generally it can be done with one fused hot wire. The switch goes to a short negative cable that connects to the frame (assuming the battery is grounded that way). This saves wire and helps reduce voltage drop.

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

Thanks for the headz-up. That looks pretty cool for the right situation, but we found our perfect match.

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

Lol, good one. Except whenever we return home from from a trip home dosent make sense. ;p

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

This is a popular question, posted in different ways. I am really impressed with the variety of candid answers here. The biggest question in my mind is how do you want to camp or more importantly how do you honestly expect to camp, while keeping within your budget and time? If you are unsure...

OB Approved Wet Wood Fire Starter

We heat with wood and use Kingfords fluid at home and camping. I haven't used kindling in about 30 years, except once in a while for nostalgia. It's also handy for cleaning off tree sap or road tar...

    My Little Trailer Build!

Nice work! Love the Classic recurves hanging in the garage. I noticed you haven't mounted the spare yet. I was thinking the removable tailgate would make a nice sturdy camp table.

    Camp Photos!

A lot of great memories but after 40+ years of tents our style of camping changed:

    Something different. Let’s talk music.

If you are not listening to blues or soul or something with some killer harmonica in it you are not listening to music! ;) If for example you need some adrenaline this might help:
