    Define "Overlanding"

......and I'll say it again. Choose a far off destination, plan a route ( which could change at a moments notice) , stop and camp at your convenience ....repeat until destination is reached. Plan a return route or next destination ( which you should have done way before now) ....blah, blah...

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

rubber wheel arch flares, no paint left on the edges of my wheel arches yet again. I've recently bought a 1997 vw passat 1.9L TDI as a donor car. Engine is AFN code, which is the strongest TDI engine VW ever made according to popular opinion in the VW T3 circles. Gonna install that in my van...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

rock crawling during an overland expedition should be that very last thing on your list and if possible, (which it usually is) avoided. Choose the other route, there always is one. Damaging your vehicle 1000 miles away from anywhere is never a good idea. So yeah, stock vehicle, good tyres and...

Tents and why you purchase them?

Great discussion provoking question Mike. I have 2 hang down tents for my ARB 2500x2500 awning. Both are used depending upon how many folks are with me, what the terrain/season/weather is likely to be. neither take much room to stow, so I take both with me.

Boot warmer/dryer to heat up a sleeping bag (anyone ever tried this?)

Shared body heat has worked for thousands of years, many mammals huddle to share body warmth in cold climates. It also saves lives.

Boot warmer/dryer to heat up a sleeping bag (anyone ever tried this?)

even though I'm now a gnarly old bastard ex royal marine, I do like my comforts these days. Gone are the grin and bear it days, I wanna be warm when it's cold outside. Those boot warmers look an option I would consider if my diesel air heater, 3 amp/h 240v electric blankets, van heater ever...

I gotta quit jumping ahead of myself

There are times when I could use a trailer, but that's just to free up space in the van rather than pack the van every time I move just to unpack it again when I get somewhere else. All in the name of a fold down bed.
