If you don't want to encounter crossovers on the trails, then go where crossovers can't go. It's not like it's a competition, right?
That way you can blow your mechanical parts and feel you worked harder and spent more money doing the same...
Stay at a campground with hookups and pay someone to periodically make sure the AC is working or doggy daycare. I used the doggy dude ranch. It seemed like a home run outfit, but they know what they are doing and the rates are reasonable.
Rather than deal with possible pressure leaks and the extra expense of pressure sealed inlet valve that requires a hose to fill (those abs fittings are expensive), I opted to just add a water pump with a automatic pressure switch and an on-off valve to the shower hose.
I got black which matches the white vehicle. But purchased that color so the boards don't stand out when mounted on the roof rack. Why? Because I drive a crossover, and don't want to portray the image of a vehicle more capable than it is.
After a 2 week trip boondocking from socal to colorado, I may never stay at a campsite again.
The freedom to go wherever and whenever on forest roads out to where the views are vast and crowds are few is addictive.
