Thanks for the head's up. You saved me a couple hour drive for nothing.
I have to say that I was pretty disappointed with the lack of off-road opportunities in the area.
We've been here since Saturday night and I have yet to be able to take the 4RUNNER anywhere other than the ball park. I'm hoping to get to Nemo's Tunnel Saturday, but I'm a bit Wary of the standing water considering the storms we've had here this week.
I'm getting pretty excited for the trip. Besides Nemo tunnel I'm looking to do at least one, perhaps two other day trips from Pigeon Forge. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Eric,
I end up in that area nearly every summer, and I might be inclined to make a trip between Christmas and new Years this winter. If so, I'll try to remember to let you know.
Eric,
Sweet! I'll be driving to the Pigeon Forge area from the Big Easy on 7/16, but I should be good to go for the 17th and/or 18th.
ETA: Holy smokes did time get away from me... I can't believe I posted about the Nemo tunnel nearly three weeks ago. Sorry for the delayed reply.
Please pardon my resurrecting this old thread. I will be in the area from July 17th through July 23rd and Nemo Tunnel is one of the things I was looking to do. I'd love to meet some members and perhaps ride some other trails in the region while I'm in the area as well.
Update on the "good enough for now" build.
It took me a while to get back on this project, but over the Easter break I finally got the Baja Designs S8 light bar and the ditch lights wired up to some switches.
I had intended to use the same switch panel as Wanderlost Overland (love their ideas)...
This is part of a wiring harness for a set of Denali D2 Auxiliary lights that were on my recently totaled Triumph Scrambler. I'm going to use them as ditch lights on my 4RUNNER and I'd prefer not to cut up the harness. If I can find out what kind of connector this is, I could perhaps find the...
I'm in need of a new fence (gotta keep the new overland hounds in the yard) and a tree had grown right around one of the posts. I cut it down and used my rig and it's winch to remove the stump. Of course I dug around the stump and cut as many roots as I could before hooking up to it. It took two...
Last summer we had to put our overland hound hound to sleep. She turned into a great dog, though as a puppy she drove me nuts. My kids were devastated for all of a month before they began asking for a new dog.
At first I was leaning against a new dog... but they kept working on me. In the...
Nope, it fit in there like a glove.
Thanks for the words of encouragement about the video. I should have another video out soon and eventually a video on mounting the Slimline bumper as well.
UPDATE: I measured the ride height before I installed the new bumper but AFTER I installed the new tires. There was virtually no difference. The new tires were the same size as the old ones, with beefier tread, so I would guess the difference in diameter would be less than an inch, so I'm...
I don't know yet because it hasn'tbeen installed yet, but I've talked to a guy who says that the upgraded springs that come on the TRD Offroad can handle the weight. If not I'll end up just adding a leveling kit or something to deal with it short term.
I'm repurposing a set of Denali D2 Auxiliary lights that were on my recently totaled Triumph Scrambler 900. I was second guessing myself about using lights that were designed for use on a motorcycle as ditch lights on my 5th gen 4RUNNER, but after confirming with a colleague that 12 volts is 12...
