Good tires and a traction aid (like Maxtrax, Gotreads, etc.). You'll be fine.
The Cathedral Valley loop in Capitol Reef is one of my favorites. No 4x4 needed really, as long as you have a bit of ground clearance. When I did it in my old truck the only time I switched to 4WD was the stream...
Monument Valley is nice, but Valley of the Gods is close by, just as beautiful, and less restrictive.
While you're in SE Utah, if you can get to Rainbow Bridge National Monument you should. It's easiest to take a boat tour across Lake Powell (there are several companies that do this), which...
If you didn't make it up the hill and you're sliding backwards, hitting the brakes doesn't help you - it just makes the slide backward uncontrollable.
Ask me how I know ;-)
I think because we're often immersed in this overlanding culture we enjoy, it's easy to get caught up in all the "what if" scenarios we see or read about, and buy too much too quickly.
I always think about it this way - back when our parents/grandparents were "overlanding" they generally just...
Millennial here - 1986 birthday. I think the term is just a euphemism for "kids these days."
First, I'm sick of the "Avocado Toast" type articles (that this article linked in the beginning) - basically just clickbait for my dad or aunt to post on Facebook. Millennials are just as diverse as any...
I also go camping in my daily driver. I find a ground tent to be the best option for me. I have a big, 120L dry bag that I fit all my sleeping gear in: tent, luxury 2-person sleeping pad (Exped megamat), sheets, pillows, and clothes. I can throw it in the trunk or strap it to the roof if there's...
Definitely a favorite since it's not that far of a drive from SLC and you can camp right next to the rim. Did you do any of the hikes down into the canyon?
Did you see Cathedral Valley? IMO that's the best spot to camp in Capitol Reef - there's a small site about halfway through an offroad loop that takes you past the Temple of the Sun. It's generally too steep and narrow for RVs so there is usually space there.
Danners. Have a pair for my uniform and love them.
Also have a pair of Light II's for outdoor pursuits. But I'd recommend going to a place where you can try on different styles. Regular Lights and Mountain Lights just didn't fit right - they seemed too wide and I don't even have very narrow...
For outdoor recreation, Salt Lake City is awesome - generally about 15 min to good hikes. For good 4x4 trails probably an hour or so. A 4 hour drive can basically get you to another planet.
