Not really that old but you don’t see many of them in this community. 1999 Explorer Sport

    Overloading your rig

Lighter is better. I try and think like a backpacker, but I do have a small fridge and a Blackstone griddle. Bumpers and a ton of armor can be displaced with common sense. Common sense is a lot lighter than steel.

US Midwest Ohio Valley Overland's Trans Hoosier Overland Route (T.H.O.R.)

Hoping this is a good long distance shake down for my midJuly Colorado run!

    Milestar Patagonia MTs

I haven't had that experience but with the Expo being AWD and you having a Pick up, you're probably a better vehicle for that attribute. Great feedback as I am considering them from our High Country.

    Chicagoland/Illinois

Don't think I ever checked in here. We are just an hour south of Chicago in Bourbonnais, Il. We have a few trips planned this year and are looking forward to getting our little 99 Explorer Sport out on the trail. We also have a 2018 High Country that my wife would rather use for our...

US Midwest Ohio Valley Overland's Trans Hoosier Overland Route (T.H.O.R.)

I'm interested in this and may even parlay the rest of the week into a Michigan, Wisconsin (TWAT), Illinois (back home) long range trip. I would even consider a LBL starting point the day before just to get an extra state in.

    Milestar Patagonia MTs

Also, we recently had a significant amount of Ice here in the Midwest and these tires did extremely well. I have had MTs get hard in the cold temps and be almost frightening during this type of weather (Toyo) and these really gripped in a nice predictable way that didn't make driving more...

    Milestar Patagonia MTs

I used to inspect transmission power lines for Com Ed here in Illinois so I have a lot of off and on road experience with Mud Terrains. I have used BFGs, Hankooks, Other Milestars, Coopers, General, Nankang, Coopers, Nitto, Toyo, and probably several others that I don't remember. These are one...

    Milestar Patagonia MTs

I figured I'd give a quick tire review after 6 months with the Milestar Patagonia MTs. I have them on my 99 Explorer and have put about 6,000+ miles on them. Still exceptionally quiet on the highway. They are 33-12.50x15s on 8 inch steelies. They have really good sidewall flex and with the SWB...

    Picture Proof Thread

It has to be so cool for the creator of this brand to see his logo in Antarctica. Very cool thread!

    Suspension shops question.

Dominant Motorsports just outside of Chicago has done a bunch of Toyotas and can tell you what works and more importantly what you don't need. 815-485-1328. He's a good friend and has done all of my work for all my wheeling days.

    Recovery Gear Poll

Mud tires should be listed as recovery gear. Those of us in the land of mud (midwest) who have mud tires get stuck and awful lot less than people with ATs. ATs are quieter but any tire rolls down the road. When you need traction, it is sure nice to have it on tap.

What was the worst thing you purchased for your rig? Why?

Cheapo radio off of Amazon. It has Blue tooth but that is the only benefit. I will be replacing again after my punishment to myself is over...(one year with crap radio). Off road equipment wise, I've been doing this for a while so I have no regrets right now that I can remember...maybe the...

    Rig Photos

1999 Explorer Sport with a 2 inch shackle and TT lift on 33-12.50-15s. Apex roof rack. It also has rocker panels..those are optional on Sports in the midwest after 19 years. Just getting started

Great to be part of this community! I have just finished a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport for our travel. My wife drives a 2018 Chevy High Country that we are leaving stock for now. I have been into off roading my whole life and did it as part of my job for a long time while inspecting power lines...
