    Anyone in Alaska?

    I am in the Wasilla area…but will probably be tied up with home maintenance projects, and not really be able to head out for much.

    US Northwest Interior Alaska Breakfast Meet Up

    I appreciate the invite. I doubt I will be able to make it. Farm chores take me longer with the broken hand, and my teens out of town this weekend.

    Arizona --> Alaska

    I have done AK to NY, NY to CA to AK, SC to AK and AK to MT and Back a few times. The trip is never the same.....but it is always awesome. I highly recommend bringing something from AZ that you would be willing to leave in the sign Forrest in Watson lake, YT. That is something I always...

    Denali Highway expedition (AK8) conception and Day 1.

    Nice! I wish I had found this group years ago. Can’t wait to see your prudhoe bay/dead horse pictures. My buddy just made the trip himself, unfortunately I wasn’t able to make that trip.

    First Lessons Learned

    Make sure your 4wheel drive is working before you get on the beach. I Buried my FJ40 up to the axles one trip because of a loose linkage. The fix wasn’t hard.....but the digging and ding to my pride sucked.

    Off Road Trails

    I have been stuck in the middle of nowhere a few times in my life......I try to be as smart as possible when on the trail. Breaking my rig is not a badge of honor for me. I have a younger buddy who is a little more adventurous than I am on the trail.......he takes it easy when I am out...

    Best overland vehicle with 7 seats

    We have both an excursion and a commander. If I actually want to take more the two people out with me the commander is a no go. The excursion has the inside room for people and some gear. It has a significantly stronger suspension and handles off the road better. The one area the...

    Redwoods National Park and Lassen National Park Trip, May/June 2018

    That looks like an amazing trip! Seeing the Paul Bunion and Babe the blue ox statue sure brought back memories of growing up around there.

    Wild animals

    When in bear country, do not keep food in your tent. Do not keep any trash out side. Do not wash your dishes near where you sleep. If a bear has ever got food from an ice chest, it will go straight for your ice chest, even if it has never been used. Best bet is to keep everything in tight...

    RTT or ground tent & why

    At the moment if I use a tent it is on the ground. Most of the time it is a poncho hooch. 5 bungee cords and a poncho work the best for me. If my wife and younger kids are out with me then it is a large dome tent. Dogs are pretty good at keeping bears out of camp, as long as your food...
