They're pretty stout and offer a bit of protection as well. Yesterday, a lady in her Escalade backed into the front of my truck in a parking lot. Zero damage to my truck or light bar. Can't say that about her tailgate.......

It does require drilling for mounting it above the cab. The platform I have installed above the cap attaches to the factory rails from ARE.

Got to use my new Roofnest Sandpiper this weekend. Super quick and easy to deploy, like 20 seconds. A little longer to break down, like 1 minute. Mattress was very comfortable. Plenty of room for two adults and a child. So far, in the limited time I've had it, I'm happy.
Bare in mind that I've only tested this set up last weekend for 2 1/2 days, so not a lot of test data for you.

Well I'm 6'4", so not so much for me. My gf is 5'11" and it takes a little more effort for her. For me, it's totally worth it, to have the extra space for the drawers underneath.
Slowly, finally getting my truck set up. Sorry for the boring driveway shot, but I nstalled the new Roofnest yesterday. Can't wait for a cool down so I can go camping!!!
