Sad story with a good post accident analysis. This is something we should all be aware of and follow.
What are your thoughts? Is the analysis good? Everything seems fair dinkum to me ;)
Stumbled on Butler Bags sleeping bags and they look very interesting and a tad expensive. Anybody have any experience with this made in America product? Most of their limited selection is rated down to 32 degrees, I am hoping this is a "humble" estimate and the bags are good for a little colder...

Did a little research this morning and would appreciate "local" feedback on the rules for an out-of-stater who plans on transporting firearms through CA.
1. Over 18 and legally able to posses firearms.
2. No concealed carry permit reciprocity with my home state.
3. No large magazines; 10 rounds...
Dad started it all and the boy wanted to follow suit but in a more "classic" way. I have been updating the What Did You Do With Your Rig Today? thread with details on both but figured a build thread would be a better place to chronicle what's going on. Dad's build is in progress but has stalled...
This recurring meetup is intended to get Seattle area locals together on a regular basis in order to socialize and grow the local Overland Bound community. The agenda is wide open; teleconference calls, burgers, trail runs, training, camping, rig work days, trail work days, whatever the group...
Anybody interested in putting together a group to do the Mackenzie Trail in BC? Looks like a difficult track that will take some planning and coordination but I cannot get it out of my mind. I would need to do some upgrades to the Jeep beforehand so am looking at a date a year, or so, out...
I have been trying to learn enough about DMR to see if it is something I want to add to my remote comm bag of tricks. So far I am coming up with no. It seems that the radios need to be programmed ahead of time to work in different regions and require a hotspot/repeater to talk to. Many people...
In a bit of a quandry - instead of updating my 2017 Wrangler's non-touch-screen head unit to a touch screen I bought an iPad Pro for navigation and to serve up music to the head unit. This is not going as smoothly as I had hoped for... The center console allows me to stream music from the iPad...
I have put together a system that will let my Jeep send and receive SMS messages anywhere via the Iridium satellite network. I would be happy to work with anyone wanting to replicate this for themselves and will provide source code on request.
This is not entry level stuff as it requires some...
I'm starting here because the obvious use of a "car-puter" is navigation - but there could also be connectivity, tunes, rig-management (OBDII display), solar charge management, etc. Has anybody else considered putting all of these types of things into a "car-puter" for overlanding?
Things I...
Has anybody played with outernet while/for overlanding? I am thinking that APRS + outernet = poor man's satcom. If you have thoughts please share them with me!
The outernet is a 1 way (receive only) sub-section of the internet beamed out by Outernet on Inmarsat GEO sats in the L band...
New member, joined the site last night and purchased a membership this morning :)
I am a big fan of camping, four wheeling, motorcycling, go-karting, etc. If it has an engine on it...
I am currently in the process of planning out the Montana 2017 route for a group of close friends. We will...
