    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

Showroom stock there is no more capable broad spectrum on off road vehicle available in the North American market than a Jeep Rubicon. Before any mods are made. Toyota gets close with their TRD pro models. Ford Raptor excels in high speed off road running. GM ZR2 Bison is a very capable...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

So in the interest of objectivity, I watched the video I quoted. In summary their position is the Jeep is far more capable off road, and that with them entirely discounting the lockers the Jeep is equipped with (which they honestly note). Had they engaged the differential lockers their hill...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

OK, so cherry pick one part, that you will never need on the Jeep under normal circumstances and promote interchangeability. I get it. I will admit to commenting on the video without watching the video, because the premise of the title is utter garbage. Are you also going to carry every...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

I didn't say anything about a Toyota, their overpriced or proprietary parts. Carry a bearing set for Dana 44? No thanks I'm more likely to be struck by lightning. If you legitimately believe that parts/aftermarket support is better (or even remotely in the same ball park) for LR ANY LR than...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

Parts availability is a thing, and completely dependent on where you are. North America? Jeep no doubt. Australia? LR for sure.

    Jeep onboard running water system.

You're talking about removing the transverse mounted muffler that is immediately behind the rear bumper and replacing it with a tank? Than turning the exhaust out the side of the jeep immediately in front of the rear tire? Sounds like a solid plan to me, although I think I would build the tank...

US West Off Grid Trailers in Stock! @Lead Dog Motorsports/

I'll do it, thanks. I had convinced myself to buy an Opus, but the more I consider the flexibility of a hard side with a rooftop, the more I question that. The advantage of throwing the door open and hopping in when it is 33* and raining when you NEED sleep is significant. I'll study on it...

    Tools

In my defense I did say LATE model Jeep, not 2 decades old. Most of the SAE found are easily interchangeable (from a tool standpoint) with metric.

LOL, your wife is not wrong, the sooner you accept that as fact the better off you are. However, much of that is unnecessary and there is already a finite amount of room in a Jeep. It really isn't that hard to figure out what you NEED and just buying a bigger set to carry around with you isn't...

This started life as an early 80's Craftsman SAE/Metric set in 3/8 and 1/4" in a nice Bible sized case. I gutted all of the SAE as well as the ratchets and added back a wider selection of metric, torx drivers, bits, extensions, swivel, an oil filter socket and oil plug socket, etc. I can't...

    Come-along or winch?

Worth it to change to synthetic? That's entirely up to you, and your femoral artery Link: Wire rope vs Dyneema pull test to failure . The danger with wire rope in a short pull application isn't so much that it is going to slingshot, but that individual stranding can break and spool back to the...
