    FJ40 build update

Good day everyone! I hope all of that plan to be out exploring and making an adventure for yourselves this Labor Day weekend travel safe. As of September 3rd, 2021, the build-up on my 1978 FJ40 has been fraught with numerous delays due to part shortages, supply chain challenges, and resource...

    Insurance coverage

As I found out, my modifications; large tires, non Toyota motor, transmission and transfer case along with upgraded brakes translated into an "Off-road-able" vehicle, not necessarily a classic show vehicle. As my beloved FJ has sky rocketed in value vs what I originally paid for it and now...

    Insurance coverage

I am sure some of you have already hit the same hurdle I have as I go through trying to update my insurance policy to better cover my non-stock Toyota FJ40. I completely understand why you should not offer up a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ recommendation for any insurance company, but I am looking to see if anyone...

    Central Oregon area

Just moved here and am in the process of getting settled in. We have a 2002 4Runner which continues to impress us during this latest snow storm, and a 1978 TLC FJ40, which is back in California getting a makeover (due to smog restrictions in CA, I have to update my tags which means getting it to...

Overland Trailers - first-hand experience: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I agree. It has been tough trying to see if my Weimaraner (dog), my wife and I would all squeeze into a teardrop-esque trailer. We have a queen sized bed in one of our spare bedrooms and tried sleeping in there with the dog for a couple nights. A couple of points... 1. My dog sleeps very warm...

Overland Trailers - first-hand experience: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

I appreciate your well thought out input on this topic. My wife and have been talking about a trailer, since we are getting up in age and trying to haul a 60# dog up a ladder into a RTT just does not sound like fun. We are also taking into consideration it could be our bug-out accommodation...

Been talking with my fabricator and some of the suppliers. I just ordered the crate motor and hoping with all the new smog laws in CA, I will be able to pass the smog test? As I move through the process I will update.

Welcome to the family. I own an FJ40 and live over here in Central Oregon. Unfortunately, my beloved rig is with a fabricator back in CA getting several new mods. Long story why it is in CA and not OR. It will be here soon enough for me to enjoy all the trails around Central Oregon. Be Safe...

US West East Bay Monthly Meet Up- Pleasanton CA

Any chance of setting up a "zoom" meet up? The current social landscape is causing us to get creative in how we stay connected. I think we can look to technology to assist with that need.

Moved in and just emptying out the boxes. The FJ40 is in the shop back in Livermore, CA to get a new engine, transmission, transfer case, disk brakes upgrade to all four wheels, 56 gallons of fuel (2 fuel cells) and a/c for the wife. Ready in late spring

    US Northwest Bend Area Recommendations

There are so many Forestry roads to access in the area. Both East and West of town. There are several YouTube Channels devoted to overland adventures in and around the Central Oregon area. Bend is a community that is very much focused on the outdoors (check out visitbend.com) that it would be...

My Land Cruiser Builds and Some Camper stuff

It seems like all the great custom shops are out of my current residence in CA. What a great build. Thank you for sharing.

    1978 Toyota FJ40

Thank you! Yes, I found the disc e-brake kit at Manafre and have talked with the folks there. That seems to be a viable option. Had I not already invested in my current front and rear axles. Hindsight right. A FJ60 rear axle would have been a good option. I appreciate your input.

    1978 Toyota FJ40

Hello everyone! I am looking to get input before I hand off my beloved FJ40 to the fabricator for some long needed TLC (pun intended). Currently I have a Chevy V8 (albeit a tired V8) butted up to a SM465 4 speed coupled to the stock transfercase. I have an ARB locker in the rear and an Auburn...

US West East Bay Monthly Meet Up- Pleasanton CA

I have a 300 bhp 350 fpt Chevy crate motor that has served me well over the past 250,000+ miles. I going to stay with a crate motor in the same power and torque specifications. I got pretty good gas mileage. Getting as much Torque is my goal.

US West East Bay Monthly Meet Up- Pleasanton CA

Thank you for the compliment regarding our FJ40. Currently, it is not being driven until i get the new V8 installed. Since it is a 1978 I still need to past smog. The current V8 is just very tired and I suspect it would not pass the breathalyzer test. I have already had to recover from a smog...

US West East Bay Monthly Meet Up- Pleasanton CA

Sorry I missed the meet up. My wife and I are doing our best to get ready for our move north (Central Oregon). While we are still here in "Live-no-more" we will try to attend the next meet up. We maybe new to OB, but we have been into off road exploration for almost 40 years. I believe there is...
