    Budget Overland Solar Setup?

So I've done a lot of thinking about this already. Before the solar panel I would just use the fridge on my main battery. Now what I found out is that we can run like this for about two and a half days before the jeep needs to be ran to recharge the battery. The fridge has a low voltage cut off...

    Budget Overland Solar Setup?

For the past few years I have been running my ARB Fridge off a single battery in my Jeep. Normally we can go for about two days comfortably before the Jeep needs to be started to recharge the battery. With a new long trip in the planning stages I decided it was time to add some solar power to my...

What is your favorite overland/camp stove?

Not many things are more crucial to a good trip than a nice meal. Having the tools to cook a nice meal can be hard to come by especially with all the different fuel types and makes of stoves that exist. I have used all sorts of Coleman stoves, backpacking stoves, single burner and duel burner...

Is camping a viable alterantive to hotels when traveling?

Over the holidays my wife and I drove to CA in order to visit some family. On the way we decided to skip hotels and camp out, this turned out to be a great decision because we ended up finding an amazing hot spring in Nevada. Needless to say we ran behind schedule because we just had to test the...

Battery Maintenance - Is this something you do?

Wow a 2 amp draw?? That seems very high. I engjoy using AGM batteries too.

Battery Maintenance - Is this something you do?

That is a nice little upgrade. I really like the idea of the monitor.

Battery Maintenance - Is this something you do?

Lately, due to our current situation, I have been driving less. The Jeep comes out about every two weeks or so. In order to keep the battery conditioned, I installed a modular solar system. What methods do you use to extend the life of your battery? Solar, battery tender, Solar battery tender...

    Gandy Warm Springs

We were unable to visit family for Thanksgiving this year so we celebrate in our own way, with some exploring of course! Our trip was short and didn’t last long, but visiting Gandy Warm Springs and this area of the west desert has us eager to put here more. Who else was able to get out for the...

What do you use for camp light?

I am not going to lie, there are one or two flashlights that caught my eye in that photo. :tearsofjoy:

What do you use for camp light?

That is a pretty nice build. Love the idea to use things lying around to make a better camp setup.

What do you use for camp light?

We use an old Coleman white gas stove. The irony is not lost on me that I do not use a Coleman lantern in favor of LEDs but I use a Coleman white gas stove. The size of the stove and the fuel it uses are perfect for us. We do a lot of cold weather and sometimes high altitude exploring. White gas...

What do you use for camp light?

I would normally agree with you on this. That is the reason I do not run LED headlights. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the light output of the light I installed. Not only is it only 10watts. It can be dimmed down and the light color can be adjusted away from that harsh blue/white led light.

What do you use for camp light?

This is one of the best arguments for not carrying fueled light. We, too, are trying to slim down on carrying different fueled items. Ideally, everything we have would run off gasoline.

What do you use for camp light?

Nice setup. Seems we had a similar idea. I really like the amount of light your setup throws.

What do you use for camp light?

I get the nostalgia feeling as well. However, they are unwieldy and take a lot of space compared to modern solutions. One thing though, I bet those Coleman lanterns will outlast today's offerings. I keep one in storage for emergencies, but I do not take it on trips anymore. Headlamps or this new...

We used the ‘ol Coleman lantern for some time as well.

What do you use for camp light?

As we continue to camp and overland we find ourselves always tweaking the setup we have. I think this is pretty normal but also never ending. One thing that we have had a great issue with is camp light. Finding something both affordable but also not over the top was a goal. Not only are we on a...

What is your favorite place to test gear?

Oh yea, the high desert is awesome fun! I think you can almost explore anywhere, if you look hard enough haha. On a side note If you go to Barstow, there are a few areas near Ridgecrest that are better in my opinion because they are not as crowded.

What is your favorite place to test gear?

This is mine, along with the Serria Nevada's. I tend to prefer a few more rocks haha.

What is your favorite place to test gear?

I agree! If you are knew to this stuff choose a more popular area. I also think it’s a good idea to get some friends together and go get stuck. Sometimes the best way to learn a skill is to practice it. Unfortunately, I’m well practiced in the art of self recovery.
