It is an annual event held in Sturgeon Lake MN. It is next weekend. We have close to 200 winter camping enthusiasts and lots of seminars and workshops.
My stove is all titanium and the stove pipe fits in the stove for transport. Total weight is 12lbs. The space it takes in the Jeep is more than offset by the benefit of having a warm and dry place to hang out. Firewood can be harvested at your destination. For those areas with prohibitions...
For basecamping, take a serious look at the new generation of canvas tents. https://www.snowtrekkertents.com/ or Dave Ellis tents https://www.elliscanvastents.com/
My tent is a 10X13 Snowtrekker. Made out of 7oz canvas and can be equipped with a screen door and window that can be velcroed in...
I do a lot of camping on frozen ground in a canvas tent and wood stove. When there is no snow, I use 6" eye screws available at your local hardware store. You can pound them into frozen ground and they will freeze solid. To remove, simply use an extra eye screw through the eye and unscrew...
No add ons except for the rack system for the top. I opted for a window on the passenger side rear and a solid drivers side. I like the stock gooseneck led reading lights. I usually have a Crazy Creek chair with me that I use to read at night up top.
Naaaah, only about 7 months out of a year! I do a lot of winter camping with a canvas tent and wood stove. I usually don't sleep in the Ursa during those trips because it is too warm and comfy in the tent.. But it is on the Jeep 12 months a year.
It stays on all year. I think it would be a major hassle to take it off very often. I don't even know it is up there and when I want to take off, it's ready to go.
I live in northern WI and the temps get to -35F. No problems at all. I have been in very windy, rainy weather that lasted 2-3...
I have an Indel B fridge powered be an ArkPak using a 105amphr AGM battery. I also have a Renogy 100w solar suitcase with 25' of #10 wire connecting it to the ArkPak via 50amp Anderson power pole.
While driving I plug the fridge into a 12v socket in the back of the Jeep and charge the ArkPak...
Rescue Jeep,
I've had mine for 1.5 years (#87). It has been amazing. It is very easy to just take off after throwing a few things in the Jeep and find a remote spot off a fire road.
I live in bug country so I have added a few items that make camp life comfortable:
A screen tent for cooking...
For something a little different and to extend your camping season into to winter, try a canvas tent with a portable wood stove. This tent is a http://www.snowtrekkertents.com/ with a Four Dog stove.
I have been very comfortable in -30F. Inside temperatures can get up to 80-90F with a load...
