What is you experience on alternators and batteries? Generally, does a factory alternator run everything you need on an adventure?

Pretty much all stock alternators today are north of 100 amp. That is a bunch and more than enough to charge batteries faster than they want to be charged. A 100ah lead acid battery is going to take 4 hours minimum to charge if it is pulled down a lot. The first hour can br the alternator then...

    Chainsaw mount ideas

I drain all gas and oil, run the saw until it does. Then remove bar and chain. Put chain and wrench in a plastic baggie and all the parts go under the back seat. It would also for under the hood. I have a quart of gas in a can. I only need the saw ever year or two so if it takes a few minutes...

New (to me) big red Suburban

Is the smoke on startup black or blue? I bet it is really blue and you are seeing weak valve guide seals. That is an old Chevy trick. Drive it Advance distributor timing. The timing chain stretches and retards ignition timing. Find out the specs and set it 5 degrees advanced from there. If...

Anybody else out there do their own body work and paint their vehicles themselves?

I use urethane paint. I'm not good but it is pretty easy. I use the 18 dollar harbor freight gun at 50 psi. 2 stage paint is a lot easier than single stage. 5 or 6 light color coats and 3 medium clear coats. For primer 2 part epoxy is the best imo

Must a fridge be hard-wired in?

Also, the alternator makes basically unlimited power when the engine is running. When the engine is off is when it counts

Must a fridge be hard-wired in?

Every connection loses power. Cigarette lighters are horrible. Run it awhile and feel the heat. It is also a double whammy. It loses power to heat, and the fridge has to run longer as it has less power. The direct connection with 12 gauge or bigger wires +fused of course,+ makes your battery...
