96 Chevy pickup camper shell/rooftop tent combo

Are there any camper shells available that fit a standard bed gmt400 pickup that could support a rooftop tent as well? We’ve been camping out of the bed off and on for 6 months or so and looking to get a more “complete” setup going forward.

2020 Goals? What do you wish to Accomplish in 2020?

My wife and I recently Started pricing vans for the future but until then we plan on transitioning to a “weekend warrior” schedule and taking more overnight trips whenever possible. She teaches so she’ll have the summer free to take more trips sporadically around my work schedule this year. We...

    Manual transmission vehicle options

Good to know re: the shifter staying put for you and your lack of bad luck. I hope you didn't just jinx yourself for my sake! The decision on whether or not we'll pick up a trailer will heavily impact whether or not we get a Wrangler or not. But there are still so many options for me to explore...

    Manual transmission vehicle options

Good to know about the suspension. I'll file it away. I almost feel guilty for asking this question so soon here. I'm likely many months away from making a vehicle purchase. I'm just trying to get as much research in early because I know I'll be super picky once I settle on something and start...

    Manual transmission vehicle options

I'm semi-familiar with the difficulties presented with manuals offroading. I'm more accustomed than most with a standard transmission though. But I am keeping these considerations in the back of my mind. While the scenarios you mention regarding the difficulties of a manual transmission offroad...

    Manual transmission vehicle options

Yeah. Black Bear Pass scares the bejeezus out of me. I don't play well with heights. Combined with some (at least) semi-technical trail driving and I'm probably never making that journey. Though, it really isn't on or around our bucket-list at the moment.

    Manual transmission vehicle options

Thanks Bob! I feel like the Wrangler will give us some perfect growing room for the future. I'm interested in how well yours pulls the trailer as the gearing is a bit of a concern for me regarding whether or not I end up acquiring a trailer to take with us on trips. We'll probably appreciate the...

Mine is @dreadpirate.roberts - though there is no Overlanding goodies there as I'm just now dipping my toe into this world. I'd like to think it's still an interesting account still but that's probably because I'm narcissistic like the rest of America.

Outsideonline article, "No, You Don't Need to Modify Your Truck to Go Off-Road"

I've only had a chance to skim the article but I agree with the gist of it. I see a lot of people that get far too consumed with having the latest and greatest suspension, RTT, bumpers for protection and added clearance, and aesthetic accessories out the wazoo. It's a lot of fun to daydream...

    Manual transmission vehicle options

Soon, the wife and I will be researching and searching for our new rig and I was curious as to what options were out there with manual transmissions. I'm aware of Wranglers and FJ's but I wanted to get some suggestions of those here. I don't absolutely need a manual transmission. I just find...

Hello everybody. Been lurking here a long time and finally decided to join up. I was amazed to find out that this car camping thing was a real thing. I’ve always dreamt of taking extended road trips to the wilderness and just “disappearing” for a few days or more and seeing anything I could. My...
