What's your latest camping gear purchase, and what caused you to buy it?

Stansport pop up tent for a portable toilet. We’re heading to an area with no facilities for four days on a trip coming up.

Those with kids and ground tents, do you also pack a screen area?

We use ground tents but no screen tents. Hasn’t been a problem for us, but it probably helps that my kids are usually covered in about 1/8” dirt layer.

Post pictures of your camp kitchen

Super simple. All the cookware and accessories fits in the Ridgid rolling toolbox and the rest stacks on top to roll back to the rig.

What is your favorite general purpose knot for overlanding?

Tautline and two-half hitches for me. I like to use them for tarps and tie downs.

What kind of knives do you carry?

My go to is my first pocketknife that My dad gave me on my 8th birthday. It’s a BSA Cub Scout knife made by Camillus. After 26 years it’s holding up great. After that, I have a Gerber multi-plier 400 compact sport, which I find handy.

Progress update: went through the rig top to bottom and did a full tune up, replaced some minor parts, took it in for a transmission health check, got that intercooler addressed, and vacuumed it out good. Took the family up a fairly tough trail for a great view of Cache Valley, UT. Only drug...

    Trail Rating Numbers?

Ratings are most definitely subjective and biased. Here in Utah, I like to refer to the trail rating system that the annual Winter 4x4 Jamboree uses for their trails as a general guide. At my driving experience level, I would feel comfortable doing anything 4 and below in my stock 3rd Gen...

Cancelled Northern Utah day trip 9 Mile Canyon

Aw man, I already have another commitment from 9:00 AM to noon or I'd totally be down for this. If something changes, I'll add myself to the RSVP. Regardless, thanks for putting this together!

Type II Diabetes, Sleep Apnea (CPAP) and Cholesterol How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle on then Trail

For a CPAP, I use a ResMed Airsense10 with a marine deep cycle battery and the DC adaptor. It's stupid heavy, but I get four full nights of sleep on the charge if I don't use the humidifier. I'm type II diabetic and control it through diet and some basic meds. I like low carb foods in general so...

    Camp entertainment

Once camp is up and running, I like to work on projects or hobbies. Things like: Cleaning/repairing old gear (I'm gonna rebuild my hi-lift on one of these trips) Practicing skills like fire building, knots, navigation, and Planning future trips in a notebook Paracord projects Watercolor...

Find something for the Honey and all will be good.

One of my wife's interests is family history/genealogy. We include stops to places like cemeteries where she can look up ancestors or take photos for find-a-grave. In general, I involve her in the planning before we leave so there are stops to look forward to, which helps for the kids, too...

High lift jack or exhaust jack?

I keep the hi-lift on hand because it has a lot of other uses, too. Spreading things, lifting, hand winching stuff, using the handle to extend socket handles, resetting a trailer that slid off a block, a makeshift traction board one time, fight off bears, replacement cot end piece, and on and on..
