  1. OverlandBound Westside LA Meetup. Stop by and meet other local (or visiting) outdoor explorers. Bring your rig, get some coffee, spin some yarns, ask for advice, and maybe plan some trips. I'm also working on getting some training/education going in the future based on everyone's interest.

Saturday, 9:30am-10:30am (or longer), Starbucks in Marina del Rey, repeating monthly on the 2nd Saturday of the month. If you see a dark grey Rubicon w/ yellow OME shocks (pictured above), that's me. I will try to get tables outside, and should have some OB flyers/stickers.

    RSVP'd, see you there.

  2. The Sierra Foothills Overlanders is sponsoring a FB live event Tuesday July 17 with Land Use Advocate Del Albright and OLB Founders Michael and Corrie Murguia.

If you have time check it out, this is probably the biggest issue with off road use today, we need to be part of the solution rather than the problem.

  3. How was it this morning ? couldn't get away from work today

Met some good people, but I hope to make this regular enough that it keeps growing too the point I have to find a better spot (suggestions welcome). And got some good tips on gear, and saw a pretty cool camper setup.

Working on getting some a fieldcraft training classes from a SERE instructor friend of mine, and maybe engaging in trail maintenance volunteer work, if we get the numbers. I've also got a home-brew "HUD" display project I can give a rundown on.

Hope to see your at the next one!

@Narbob may have located a better spot, stay tuned. Will update the RP when I have more details, but the date should remain the same.

  6. Thanks for the invite, unfortunately I will be camping up in the Shaver Lake area that weekend.

Reminder, this is happening again this Saturday at the new location listed in the rally point!

  7. Hey thanks for organizing yet another fine SoCal meet up event! The options to get out and meet like minded OBers is catching fire in the southland. OC 1st Saturday, LA 2nd Saturday, IE 3rd Saturday and SD on the 4th Thursday makes there plenty of options for folks to come out during the month. Thanks again @Barclay for making it happen!

  8. Just a heads up everyone, next meetup will be at Common Space Brewery and Tasting room in Hawthorne.  Half-off first pour, and @smhokinpot food truck!  RP details have been updated, hope to see you there!

  9. @Barclay can you confirm the address of 1/12/19 meetup?  I'd like to make it by, seems do-able this time!

Also, a note of netiquette for those planning trips or want to have other conversations, please create a new thread for those trips rather than hijack an existing thread with your details.

    Dan.

  10. Lots of fun, about 11  trucks, a new record for this meetup. Next month qpromises to be bigger.

Probably at the same time & location so plan now for that one!

DanIt was fun. Did anyone take pictures. I forgot to.

  11. Thanks everyone for coming out! I had a great time meeting some new people and swapping stories. This is the new regular place and time, see everyone in future events at the same place and time.

  12. Dan:  from our 'death wobble' conversation at the meetup:

Were you able to nail anything down?  Several sources say 99% is due to the axle-end bolt of the track bar is loose. That's pretty incredible that if it's not completely tight it can cause that.

That also means that regularly, this bolt will be severely over-tightened which could lead to another, more catastrophic failure!

In the video showing underneath, I can see two things: A lot of movement where the steering box mounts to the frame rail, as well as the side-to-side movement (pretty severe) of the engine on its mounts.

I would look into some engine mounts that had a different type of rubber (changing the durometry of the mount) to see if that had any improvement!

Interested to see how this turns out for you, lemme know!

    Dan.

Visual inspection didn't reveal much aside from the drag link having ~1mm of play. Haven't checked all the bolts yet; I did install control arm mount skids recently (required pulling the lower bolts) and I tightened them myself but they may have settled loose . But, I'm at the limit of my expertise, so I'm taking it in to my local shop and I'll pass along your observations, thanks!
