Overland off-road loop ride to Moon Rocks, Winnemucca Ranch, Dry Valley, Fort Sage Mountains and back.
When: Saturday, April 21 2018
Where: Meet up at McDonald's Restaurant parking lot, Lemmon Drive and Hwy 395 north
Start Time: Meet at 9:30AM and depart at 10:00 am SHARP!
End Time: 2PM to 4PM should finish on pavement in 4 to 6 hours depending on how many stops we make and how long we hang out at the lunch stop overlooking Honey Lake.
Directions: Coming from Reno drive north on Hwy 395 and turn on Lemmon Drive. McDonald's is the First turn into the parking lot.
The overland route: Drive up Lemmon Valley Drive to Antelope Valley and through Moon Rocks to Winnemucca Ranch Road. Go North on Winnemucca Ranch road to dry Valley and have lunch at the overlook to Honey Lake on the flanks of Fort Sage Mtns. Then Drive back towards Rancho Haven and come out Red Rock Road.
Distance covered: The entire loop will be around 65 miles. About 8 miles will be on 4 wheel drive road and about 20 miles will be on pavement.
Trail conditions: Most of the route is on graded roads a few miles are 4 wheel drive roads in Dry Valley that has some steep rocky rutted sections. A good SUV with high clearance will have no trouble. We will do a few easy water crossings.
Scenery: Drive into the remote high desert between two mountain ranges through a beautiful valley and up to another range and get a view across Honey Lake and see all the way to the Black rock desert region.
